A cut made through the skin during surgery is known as an incision. Another name for it is a surgical wound. Incisions can range in size from short to long. To clean the skin around your incision, you can use a gauze pad or soft cloth: Use mild soapy water or regular saline solution (salt water). Gauze or a towel should be soaked in saline solution or soapy water before being used to gently dab or clean the area.
